Hi, I’m Codi Backman.

Through my own journey as a mother of two, I have unveiled a passion for serving women and mothers. By focusing on providing education, nourishment and connection, I believe that women can feel empowered and safe during one of the most transformative chapters of their lives.

I strive to help mothers-to-be to embrace birth and empower themselves, to cushion the sometimes jarring experience of transitioning from maiden to mother, and to nourish Mom in the sacred postpartum experience, so that she can focus on healing and bonding with baby. It is my hope to help create circumstances that will allow you to rest and enjoy those hazy newborn days.

My Approach

I believe that with proper education, we can set ourselves up for a more confident, informed experience. My goal is to help guide you through your learning process, so that you’re not endlessly searching for answers alone.

Pregnancy + Labor Resources

Through childbirth education and by providing resources, I hope to set you up for a confident birth experience, where you believe in yourself, can lean into your motherly intuition, and truly enjoy your new family.

Postpartum

Sometimes it’s someone to talk and ask questions to, or someone to point you in the right direction regarding IBCLCs, oral ties, sleep… Sometimes it’s someone to bring you a meal and help tidy so that you can hold your baby without anxiety or obligation. Whatever it is, I’m here for you.

 What else?

  • A decade ago, I was living a completely different life. I was ill, dealing with chronic health issues, infections, a smoker, had terrible nutrition education and values, and did not understand what it meant to live a healthy life.

I married into a family that helped me through all of this and have quite literally saved my life. My father in law has worked as a natural health consultant for around 30 years and my mother in law is extremely knowledgable in all things herbs, oils, and raising her children without dependence on western medicine.

Combined, they have taught me so much and led me into the path that I am today. Now, I am studying herbalism via The Herbal Academy and am always learning how nutrition, herbs, and approaching health proactively and holistically can create healthy families, mamas, and children.

  • Pregnancy and birth education as well as postpartum support is where I thrive, and where I believe I help moms the best, in this season of life. I deeply feel that postpartum moms are easily forgotten, that people undermine the weight of being a new mom, and that in the whirlwind of learning how to take care of a newborn, we forget to take care of mothers.

I believe that motherhood is meant to exist within a village. In some instances, we either don’t have a community yet or simply haven’t identified its value yet. Recognizing that we need help postpartum is a great time to reach out for help from a doula, who can come along and serve, comfort and guide you while you’re still community-building.

  • Due to the season of life that I’m in raising a toddler with health issues and a baby under one who is still nursing, I simply cannot commit to births—though I may someday!

For now, I know exactly who I would refer you to, if you are looking for a birth doula. Meet one of my best friends and locally one of the most trusted birth doulas, Ashley Catto.
