I want you to, for a moment, think about your skin.

It is the biggest organ on your body. It regulates your body temperature, stores fat and water, is a sensory organ. It protects you from bacteria, shields against light, heat, infection.

It’s also highly absorptive. I believe it’s easy to think that when we put something on our skin, it either stays there or can be washed off, and that is it. But instead, when something enters our skin, it enters our body.

If you’ve ever used essential oils topically, I think you can easily understand the power of our skins absorption.

Increasingly, our world has become toxic, and more toxic all of the time. The closer you live to cities, the more processed your food and products are, the more toxins you are bound to come across in your daily life.

This is not meant to be scary (though sometimes, it really does feel that way). It’s meant to help you consider before you use and to help you take control of what you are putting on and inside of your body.

It’s easiest to think about products that we use over large portions of our body. Remember, skin is your largest organ. Body lotion, soap, shampoo, conditioner, your dish soap. These are all products that are applied daily, if not multiple times daily.

To avoid in skincare and cleaning products:

  • DEA (Diethanolamine), MEA (Monoethanolamine) and TEA (Triethanolamine)

  • Isopropyl Alcohol

  • FD&C Color Pigments

  • Fragrance/Perfume/Parfum

  • Nano or Micronized Ingredients

  • Palm Oil

  • Phthalates

  • Triclosan

  • Formaldehyde

  • Retinyl Palmitate

  • Heavy metals such as aluminum (check your deodorant)

  • Ammonia

  • Floride (in toothpaste)

These types of ingredients disrupt hormones, are carcinogens, interrupt natural processes in your body… This is why it’s important that body men and women take steps to use clean, natural ingredients. My general rule is that if you cannot pronounce it or recognize what it is with a simple google search, I suggest you find something else.

You can also use the EWG website to identify the safety of your products.
