Preconception
It’s most common in our culture here in the United States that the majority of people subconsciously think that the childbirth timeline begins with the conception of life in the womb. But we’re forgetting one of the most important parts of the equation: the health of the home of your child for those first nine months.
Of course, there are many instances where we are surprised by the birth of our baby. My firstborn for example was completely unexpected for us and we did not have the time we would have otherwise taken to get in a good space for conception.
If you’re able to however, I think it’s one of the most important things you can do for your future baby. And it’s important to realize this: this isn’t just about you, Mom. Your partner is an extremely important factor to your fertility journey as well as the health of your future baby.
Many people in their journey and struggles with fertility forget to consider that the health of dad matters—a lot. Arguably, more than Mom’s. You are the carrier, the home of your child, but the health of Dad’s sperm is the beginning of it all. While yes, this is a program for Mothers in various stages of their journey, it is my hope that you are sharing what you are learning with your partner too.
Preconception is the best time to think about some of the following things—
Are you and your partner on the same page when it comes to health?
What does your family’s diet look like? Are you eating primarily clean, whole foods?
What kinds of processed foods are you having?
What does your cleaning products look like? Your skincare products? Your deodorant, your shampoo and conditioner? Your sacred skincare products?
Are you sweating? Detoxing? Having normal, health bowel movements?
How is your menstrual cycle? Are you bedridden with heavy bleeding and severe cramps every month? Or are you in tune with your cycle, light to medium bleeding, and limited to no pain?
Now is the time to consider your overall health and to start taking note of what you can do to better your health. Some of these questions can be really hard and overwhelming, especially if they haven’t been considered before. My hope is to help walk you through some of these questions, supply alternatives, and help give you the tools to move forward towards conception.
